The cast of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ have banded together in an effort to get James Gunn back as director following his exit from the project earlier this month…
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ want James Gunn back.
On Monday, the main cast from the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Michael Rooker signed a letter that pushed for Gunn to be reinstated as the writer and director behind the third film in the series.
Gunn was fired from the project by Disney after some controversial Twitter messages from several years ago were brought to light where the director had made jokes about rape and pedophilia. Gunn immediately apologized for the inappropriate messages and several members of the cast of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ came to his defense after his firing.
Now the entire main cast from the Marvel series are asking for Gunn to be reinstated to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’. You can read part of the statement from the cast below along with the full post from Chris Pratt’s Instagram account.
“We fully support James Gunn. We were all shocked by his abrupt firing last week and have intentionally waited these ten days to respond in order to think, pray, listen, and discuss. In that time, we’ve been encouraged by the outpouring of support from fans and members of the media who wish to see James reinstated as director of Volume 3 as well as discouraged by those so easily duped into believing the many outlandish conspiracies surrounding him.
“Being in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies has been a great honor in each of our lives. We cannot let this moment pass without expressing our love, support, and gratitude for James. We are not here to defend his jokes of many years ago but rather to share our experience having spent many years together on set making Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2. The character he has shown in the way of his firing is consistent with the man he was every day on set, and his apology, now and from years ago when first addressing these remarks, we believe is from the heart, a heart we all know, trust, and love. In casting each of us to help him tell the story of misfits who find redemption, he changed our lives forever. We believe the theme of redemption has never been more relevant than now.”
On his own personal account, Pratt stated that he doesn’t support Gunn’s inappropriate jokes from several years ago, he still believes the director deserves a second chance and hopes that he’ll return as the director for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.
Since Gunn was removed from the film, dozens of actors and actresses who have worked with him over the years have come to his defense in hopes that he could be reinstated to the franchise he helped create for Marvel. Now it appears the entire cast is banding together in an effort to bring Gunn back.
