In retrospect, Anakin’s stunning lack of remorse after executing Dooku is a telling indicator of how far he has progressed down the path to wickedness.
Dooku was under the impression that his efforts were paving the way to a new dawn for all people. He gave up his lifestyle to follow what he believed to be the one and only route to a perfect civilisation. A sense of duty to others, compassion, and fairness all drove him. Count Dooku was a genuinely terrible villain since he went to his death trying to do the right thing.
