Justified will wrap up the series with season six next year but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve seen the last of Raylan Givens….

The fifth and penultimate season of ‘Justified’ will come to an end on Tuesday night with the episode titled ‘Restitution’ before the final year of the show based on an Elmore Leonard story wraps up with season six. The decision to finish the show in six seasons was decided just before ‘Justified’ came back with executive producer Graham Yost and star Timothy Olyphant agreeing that the timeline to end things at that point made sense.
But just because ‘Justified’ will be coming to an end after season six doesn’t mean there’s no chance of us seeing Raylan Givens, Boyd Crowder and the rest of the cast again. Yost confirmed recently that there have been internal discussions about the possibility of a ‘Justified’ movie happening after the show wraps in 2015.
“I won’t be coy. We’ve talked about it, but there’s absolutely nothing concrete,” Yost said on Thursday. “Our focus is just so entirely on trying to put together the final season that we haven’t really thought beyond that. At the same time, we always think about it.”
Now the idea of a ‘Justified’ movie might lead you to believe that if it’s being considered then there’s now way the show would kill off lead character Raylan Givens before the show concludes next year, but Yost says that’s not the case. Their goal as a television show is to tell this story to the best of their ability and if that means the ending comes with Raylan going down then it might spoil a movie, but it will end the series the way they intended.
The story tellers will tell the story for season six regardless of the prospect of a movie.
“That would lead you to believe that then Raylan must live, but that is something that, again, because we haven’t decided, you know, listen, if he dies then there’s not going to be a movie,” Yost stated. “Unless it’s about Dewey (Crowe). And we love our Dewey, but it really hasn’t been decided. But it also is something that we do talk about.”
For his part, ‘Justified’ star Timothy Olyphant also sounded on board for a movie version of the show if the right timing worked out to make it happen. During a Facebook Q&A on Friday, a fan asked him point black if he would be interested in doing a ‘Justified’ movie and his response was, “I wouldn’t be against it!”.
Before a ‘Justified’ movie could even come into the discussion, the show runners and writers have to get through season six next year to wrap up the series. At that point, however, it doesn’t sound out of the realm of possibility that a movie could happen.
