The upcoming “Scream” sequel is really putting the band back together again with Courteney Cox now confirmed for her return to the horror franchise…
Courteney Cox is ready to “Scream” again.
The actress who has portrayed tele-journalist Gale Weathers in all four previous “Scream” films announced her return to the franchise for the upcoming sequel from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett with the screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick — the same team that made the breakout 2019 horror-comedy “Ready or Not.”
“We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney,” the directors said in a shared statement. “We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have promised to honor the late, great “Scream” director Wes Craven with their vision for the upcoming sequel. In fact, their take on the film is one of the reasons why Neve Campbell has said she’s considering a return to her role as Sidney Prescott for the upcoming movie.
Cox is the latest star from the first four “Scream” movies to confirm her return to the franchise after the last film in the series — “Scream 4” — was released back in 2011.
Cox will be joined by her ex-husband David Arquette, who previously announced that he had signed on to star in the upcoming “Scream” sequel as well as he reprises his role as Deputy Dewey Riley.
Not much is known about the script or the plans for the “Scream” sequel but production on the film will take place in Wilmington, N.C. with a start date still to be announced.
