Despite best intentions, often times our favorite media sources can get cut off in their prime and leave a space that’s tough to fill – this could be our favorite music artists and bands deciding to part ways and being left with tributes and covers, brick and mortar offline games replaced by online alternatives just like when you look here for the best that have appeared, or in the case of our favorite TV shows, those that have been cancelled and can only be revisited from time to time to gain that same enjoyment once again. So, which are the biggest shows that were cancelled ahead of their time?
Firefly – No list like this can be made without the sci-fi classic that was followed by a fan-favorite movie in the space too – the two decade old show got off to a tough start when the network aired the show out of order as the pilot was actually the last episode to show and the second episode was the first to show, it’s all a bit confusing and may be in part why ratings didn’t immediately live up to expectations. It was a show that fell into the pit at a time where Fox were trigger-happily cancelling many different shows, and despite it becoming a classic amongst fans, any hopes of it returning may be out of the question despite the cast being more than willing to reprise their roles.
The Expanse – Another huge sci-fi hit and one that is considered to be one of the best sci-fi shows made, this is a more recent show to enter the list but not exactly cancelled in the traditional sense. Initially being a TV hit, it was later picked up by Amazon to continue the series and to great success too, but ultimately the partnership had run its course and the sixth season was set to be the final – there’s still more books, and the possibility that the series could continue in the future, but for now fans hopes may be dashed as the season is indefinitely on hold.
Mindhunter – Not technically cancelled, and more on indefinite hold, fans may be losing hope that the Netflix show following the path of notable serial killers in the 70’s and 80’s will return. Despite the cast hoping for five full seasons, the pandemic and busy schedules have led to the show going on hiatus and now three years on there’s little news around whether or not the show will return – there’s still plenty of story to be told after being left on a bit of a cliffhanger, and something that many fans will hope comes back sooner rather than later.
