“Stranger Things” season 4 won’t arrive on time but an executive producer on the series promises even better episodes when the show returns…
The coronavirus pandemic has forced dozens of TV series to cancel or postpone production and the hit Netflix show “Stranger Things” was no exception.
While filming on the highly anticipated fourth season was delayed several months with production just starting in early October, executive producer Shawn Levy actually sees a bright side to the extra time off.
As inconvenient as the timing might have been for fans excited to see new episodes of “Stranger Things,” Levy explains how the show’s creators — Ross and Matt Duffer — actually used the additional time to finish writing the entire season prior to filming.
“I’ll just say the pandemic definitely massively delayed shooting and therefore the launch of our current Season 4, date still TBD,” Levy explained recently when speaking to Collider.
“But it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever.”
Typically writers on a series as big as “Stranger Things” are on a very tight timeline in terms of finishing the scripts and then turning them around for production. Rarely is an entire season finished prior to the start of filming but the pandemic allowed the Duffer brothers time to actually plot out the course for everything happening in “Stranger Things” season 4.
As a reminder, “Stranger Things” season 3 ended with the kids from Hawkins about to be separated after Joyce Byers decides to move her family out of the small Indiana town while taking Eleven with them after the entire group believed Hopper was dead. That leaves Mike, Dustin and Lucas back in Hawkins while Eleven is trying to understand what happened after she lost her powers during the most recent battle against the creatures from the Upside Down.
There’s still no word on when “Stranger Things” season 4 will arrive on Netflix but it appears the expectations should be high for these upcoming episodes.
