Check out the new trailer for “The Mandalorian” season 2 with plenty to digest before the new episodes begin dropping on Oct. 30 on Disney+…
“This is the way”
Expect to hear that phrase a lot during “The Mandalorian” season 2 when the “Star Wars” spinoff returns with brand new episodes on Oct. 30 on Disney+.
The first trailer for the new season arrived on Tuesday and we’ve got a full breakdown of some of the biggest moments from the two-minute clip.
The trailer opens with a banged up Razor Crest flying through space with sparks shooting out of one engine and the cargo bay left wide open as it appears Mando is looking for a safe place to land. We then hear the voice of The Armorer — a Mandalorian spirit guide of sorts — who helped Mando throughout the first season and eventually gave him the directive that we hear in the trailer.
The Armorer told Mando that he needed to reunite the Child — better known as Baby Yoda — with his own people but that task won’t be easy to complete. First, Mando doesn’t even know the species that Baby Yoda comes from and throughout “Star Wars” history, we’ve only ever seen two characters from that species including Yoda and Yaddle, a former member of the Jedi Council. The Armorer also tells Mando about the history of this species in relation to the Mandalorians.
“The songs of eons past tell of battles between Mandalore the Great and and order of sorcerers called Jedi.”
Remember, at this point in history after the fall of the Empire, the Jedi knights have been extinct for several years. Throughout this voiceover, we also see Mando flying his ship over an ice world as well as a desert planet featuring a Tusken raider, which means he’s returning to Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine at some point in season 2.
After The Armorer mentions the Jedi, we get a glimpse of a cloaked woman standing in the distance and it’s a new character portrayed by WWE superstar Sasha Banks (real name Mercedes Varnado). What her relation to this particular scenario remains to be seen, especially in context to the mention of the Jedi.
The next few shots show Mando being flanked by a pair of X-wing fighters, which means he will likely encounter the new government that’s taken over in the wake of the Empire being toppled. We get a glimpse of Mando being reunited with his old friends Greef Karga and Cara Dune, who were very helpful to him throughout the first season.
We also see plenty of Imperial locations including TIE fighters taking off as well as Stormtroopers making an appearance.
The final scene shows Mando sitting in the audience at a fight club where a group of Gamorreans are battling it out in the ring. Once again, this could point back to Tatooine where former gangster Jabba the Hutt employed Gamorreans as his security forces.
The end shows Mando once again needing to protect Baby Yoda and the kid has learned to cover up when the blasters start blasting.
With “The Mandalorian” still more than a month away, it’s likely we’ll get another trailer before the season debuts because the first footage didn’t show Moff Gideon or any of the new characters allegedly appearing during season 2. Stay tuned for that at a later date but for now enjoy the new trailer for “The Mandalorian” season 2 ahead of the debut on Oct. 30.
