There was a brilliant scene in the Breaking Bad debut episode “Blood Money” on Sunday where Jesse’s stoner friends Badger and Skinny Pete wax intellectual about the science behind the transporter on Star Trek.
It was something pure Kevin Smith-ian in nature to hear these two guys break down how the transporter is actually killing and remaking a person every time they are beamed to another planet. There’s a reason why McCoy never wants to go on the transporter right? He’s a doctor! It’s science, bitch!
The real highlight, however, was Badger telling Skinny Pete that he had a great idea for a Star Trek episode involving Kirk, Spock and Chekov being involved in a pie-eating contest (he just needed to write it).
The three crew members are munching down blueberry pie, but despite Spock’s superior mind and body control, he just can’t keep up with Chekov’s bottomless pit of a tummy.
The kicker is Chekov has the whole thing rigged because he secretly has Scotty in the transporter room beaming the contents of his stomach out into space with every pie he gobbles down.
Hearing the characters tell it for themselves is much better, and the good folks at Vulture have now posted a video set to animation where Badger breaks down this nefarious Star Trek plot.
