The folks at Sony are using a bit of nostalgia to promote the upcoming release of the Playstation 4…

Just so you know the Sony Playstation 4 is coming out on November 15, 2013. Yes just before Christmas. Expect the elves in the North Pole to be spending their breaks button mashing.
I have always been a Playstation fan. My love for video games started in the 80’s when I got an Atari for Christmas and spent hours playing Asteroids. I eventually graduated to Nintendo, from there I had to have the Sega Genesis. When I was finished with Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe I put the Genesis console aside and that is when I met Playstation.
PS1 and I had an amazing relationship where I spent hours tapping it’s buttons for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2, Final Fantasy, WWE Wrestling, NHL, and trying to find the cheat code to make Laura Croft naked in Tomb Raider; did that actually exist? Also let’s not forget the original Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 where we could take our daily frustrations out on the police. There are too many games to mention and too many days wasted but when you had a friend that could modify the PS1 so that it would take downloaded games on disc, it meant spending a lot of college days inside with friends, bong hits, Fireball whisky and no chicks.
So why am I giving you this flashback? Maybe I’m hoping there are fellow nerds who look fondly upon those days as well. Over the decade we have been blessed with the PS2 and PS3 where games started to really blow our minds. I will say this, Sony definitely knows there are many out there like me who reminisce about the good ol’ days. All you have to do is look upon their new advertising campaign for the PS4 and realize they are trying to play on our sense of nostalgia. I’m probably going to piss off some of my Xbox nerds when I say this…Playstation has always been the better console. Period. This is a fact that most Xbox, Halo playing disciples will try and dismiss.
I’m not a hater and I don’t mind the Xbox from time-to-time, but generally speaking the Playstation has always been a solid console that was reliable with some classic game titles. So here we are at the precipice for the 4th edition of what will most likely be another console that will once again show us that video games have come a long way since the days of Crash Bandicoot.
Sony put Xbox in its place at this year’s E3 Expo and sent them packing back to the drawing table to do a full 180 on their DRM policy. Like I said, not here to rip on the Xbox because I will say this, their exclusivity for certain game titles is what will probably set them apart. That said the Sony PS4 boasts a better graphics card, lack of restrictions and will cost $100 less.
I’ve always been a Playstation guy but I’m in my mid thirties now with two kids of my own and I found that my PS3 has currently became a dust collector. Sigh… Regardless the PS4 will undoubtedly be a success as Sony believes it’s a console for the players. What say you? Are going with Playstation or Xbox?
