For years SyFy was a network all about the grand miniseries events and they will return to their roots with a new series called ‘Ascension’ debuting in 2014…
From Battlestar: Galactica to Alice to Tin Man, SyFy has been a network born and bred on the miniseries event and following a five year absence from the genre, they are returning there with a new series called ‘Ascension’ set to debut in November 2014.
The show will be a six-part series written and produced by Philip Levens, who is best known for his work on the hit CW series ‘Smallville’.
The plot for the show is as follows (h/t The Hollywood Reporter)
Ascension takes place on a century-long space shuttle journey, where hundreds of men, women and children left Earth behind at the start of the Cold War. Nearly 50 years after their covert 1963 mission launched with the intention of colonizing a new world, a young woman is mysteriously murdered, prompting the population to question the nature of the mission as they near the point of no return.
The plan is for the series to run as six episodes from November to December, but depending on the success of the show there is always a chance it could be picked up for a full season order similar to what happened with Battlestar: Galactica years ago.
