Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, to be aired on ABC via Direct TV, will definitely be one of the hot items at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, but before Joss Whedon’s new Avengers spin-off lands on ABC, some details are starting to leak out.
Earlier this week, we brought you the first teaser video for newly minted Agent Grant Ward, and now EW.com has spoken to co-creator and writer Jed Whedon about a few more details.
Included in the new spoilers is how the show plans on dealing with Agent Coulson’s death that happened in The Avengers. How is he back and what did he do to get a second chance?
The pilot hints at how mild-mannered kick-ass bureaucrat Agent Coulson (Clarke Gregg) was resurrected to lead the team after being killed off in The Avengers (his S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues say he must “never know the truth” about his death). Yet you’ll have to keep watching to learn the full story. “We can’t wait to pull the curtain back on that,” says co-creator Jed Whedon. “[But] we’re going to take our time.”
Also revealed in the new article is the fact that the new show will work in tandem with the Marvel Universe movies as they are released. While there’s been no confirmation that characters will necessarily crossover to the TV show, it’s always possible. The next two major Marvel releases will be Thor: The Dark World, which comes out later this year and Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April 2014.
“We plan on trying to weave in between the films and try to make them more rewarding on both ends,” Whedon said in the interview.
He also revealed that the new team at S.H.I.E.L.D. will be aware of characters like Captain America and Iron Man, but they won’t necessarily cross paths at all times.
It will be interesting if they address Loki’s involvements in Thor seeing as he’s the one that ended the life of poor Agent Coulson.
The debut panel, which lands in Ballroom 20 (running at the same time as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones mind you in Hall H) will run for an hour and 15 minutes. Expect some questions about the new show to be answered by showrunner and executive producer Joss Whedon, but new footage will almost assuredly be shown during the panel.
Also expect some cast from the new show to debut during the panel at Comic Con.
