“Orphan Black” and “Perry Mason” star Tatiana Maslany will join the Marvel Universe as “She-Hulk” in the new series headed to Disney+…
Here’s hoping Tatiana Maslany enjoys wearing green.
Maslany — best known for her past roles in “Orphan Black” as well as a recent appearance in the HBO series “Perry Mason” — has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming “She-Hulk” series from Marvel Studios with the show set to air on Disney+.
The casting comes after Marvel announced plans for several new series planned for Disney+ including “She-Hulk,” “Ms. Marvel,” and “Moon Knight.” Unlike past Marvel television series such as “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” which aired on Netflix, these new shows will be incorporated into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe with the potential to crossover characters between films and TV.
In the new “She-Hulk” series, Maslany will play Jennifer Walters, an attorney based out of Los Angeles who is involved in a life-threatening shooting, which then requires her cousin Bruce Banner to give a blood transfusion to save her. Needless to say, Bruce’s blood gets the job done but Jennifer soon adapts some of the same powers as her green-skinned Avenger cousin except she’s not a fountain of rage just boiling over.
Instead, Jennifer learns to appreciate her new found powers as She-Hulk and she continues operating as an attorney while also transforming into a superhero, who eventually joins The Avengers.
Of course, it’s impossible to know how much of that origin story will make it into the “She-Hulk” TV show but actor Mark Ruffalo, who portrayed Bruce Banner/The Hulk in numerous Marvel movies previously said that the studio had approached him about making at least a cameo appearance in the new series.
“She-Hulk” is the first of the new Marvel series to actually get into casting, which means it will also likely be the first to go into production. There’s no word yet when “She-Hulk” might actually debut on Disney+.
