Check out the new trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine” as the mutants provide the ultimate f**king teamup to change everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…
It’s safe to say the word “fuck” gets dropped more in the new trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine” than ever heard before during the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That’s just how things go when you invite the Merc with a Mouth to play in the same sandbox as The Avengers.
The first full length trailer for the upcoming film featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman back on screen together shows the reluctant heroes teaming up in a multiverse adventure unlike anything ever seen before in the MCU.
By all accounts, Wade Wilson gets called into action by the Time Variance Authority — the group we first saw in the debut season of “Loki” — and it looks like his help is needed as the multiverse starts crashing down around them. In order to save his world, Deadpool needs help from somebody else who has experience in that realm so he’s sent to a different universe to retrieve Wolverine to give him a helping hand.
Based on the trailer, it doesn’t look like Wolverine has much interest in helping out but Deadpool can be very persuasive when he wants.
The new trailer also features dozens of Easter eggs for keen-eyed viewers including a giant sized Ant-Man head with a very dead skull inside, which seems to point to the “Old Man Logan” comic, which is an alternate universe story where Wolverine was tricked into killing all of the X-Men through an illusion created by Mysterio that ends with him living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. We get a couple of glimpses of that in the trailer, which could hint at the world that Logan couldn’t save, which is why he’s being recruited to potentially redeem himself alongside Deadpool.
That same shot with Ant-Man’s head also features brief appearances from some of the “X-Men” villains from past films including Lady Deathstrike (from “X2”), Azazel (from “X-Men: First Class”) and Toad (from “X-Men”).
We also get our first look at the big bad in “Deadpool & Wolverine” played by Emma Corrin, who portrays Cassandra Nova. In the comics, Cassandra is actually Charles Xavier’s twin sister who he killed in the womb after realizing she had an evil presence. Despite being stillborn, Cassandra survived as a mass of cells in a sewer wall, who meticulously crafted a new body for herself and she’s driven by an intense desire to seek vengeance on her brother. Cassandra possesses many of the same power as Professor X including telepathy as well as telekinesis, a healing power, DNA manipulation, phasing through solid matter, astral form projection and she can even “jumpstart” latent mutant abilities.
That’s a lot to absorb in one trailer!
