Sons of Anarchy soundtrack favorite The White Buffalo will release his new album on the same day season 6 premiers on FX…
If you’ve ever watched Sons of Anarchy, whether you knew it or not you were already familiar with The White Buffalo—an alt country artist whose songs have peppered virtually every season of the popular FX drama.
The White Buffalo is actually just one person named Jake Smith, who took his acoustic country act on the road in support of his music over the last few years, and has become a popular attraction largely due to his interaction with Sons of Anarchy fans.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have a handful of songs in Sons of Anarchy,” Smith said when speaking with Carson Daly in 2012. “It seemed to fit really well with the dark and the light of the characters.”
The White Buffalo’s songs have had prominent placement in several key scenes throughout the history of the biker drama including the season four finale in which his cover of “House of the Rising Sun” is heard over the final few minutes as Jax takes over the gavel as president of SAMCRO.
Last season, The White Buffalo track “The Whistler” was featured during the penultimate episode when Jax injects his ex-wife Wendy with drugs in an attempt to stave off her threats about asking for custody of their son Abel.
In other words, Smith’s songs are littered throughout every season of Sons of Anarchy, and on Tuesday September 10 he’ll release a new concept album that will come out just hours before Sons of Anarchy returns to the airwaves for season six of the show.
“Shadows, Greys and Evil Ways” is a concept album by Smith, and while there’s no confirmation it’s likely a track from the album or some other piece of music from Smith will make its way onto Sons of Anarchy this season as well.
The new White Buffalo album will be released on September 10 and the entire record can currently be streamed at Paste Magazine.
