Laura Benanti — best known for her work on ‘Nashville’ and ‘Nurse Jackie’ — has been cast in a recurring role on the upcoming CBS series ‘Supergirl’ where she plays Kara Zor-El’s mother. Benanti’s character is named Alura Zor-El and she will be appearing in several episodes throughout the first season although she’s not on board as a series regular. The lead role playing Supergirl went to Glee alum Melissa Benoist, while several other cast members still remain including the lead antagonist, Hank Henshaw. ‘Supergirl’ goes into production later this year.
