Supergirl season 2 continues to add to the cast with the first openly gay character joining the show this year….
Floriana Lima — best known for her roles in The Family and Allegiance — has been cast as Detective Maggie Sawyer for Supergirl season 2, kicking off this fall on the CW.
Maggie Sawyer is a familiar face to DC Comics fans as an openly gay character, who first appeared as part of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit in Superman before eventually joining the Gotham City police force where she interacted with Batman.
In Supergirl, Sawyer is a new detective in National City charged with investigating and keeping an eye on alien activity in town ever since the criminals from Fort Rozz started flooding the area a season ago.
Lima will join a growing cast for season 2 as Supergirl moves from CBS to the CW where the show joins other DC favorites such as The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
Look for Lima to show up early in season 2, which will kick off on Monday, October 10 at 8pm on the CW.
