House of Cards Star Joins Luke Cage in Villainous Role

A familiar face from House of Cards is trading in the White House for the Marvel Universe to join Luke Cage

Mahershala Ali — best known for his role as Remy Danton on Netflix’s hit series House of Cards — has signed on for a full time role on another Netflix show Marvel’s Luke Cage.

Ali will play Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes in the upcoming series set to debut on Netflix in 2016.

Stokes is a Harlem nightclub owner, who eventually goes up against Luke Cage when his criminal activities threaten the ‘Hero for Hire’.

“Mahershala is an actor of extraordinary range and gravitas. As Cottonmouth he will really let loose,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Luke Cage won’t know what hit him.”

Cottonmouth is a famous villain who opposes Luke Cage in the comic books as well so it looks like Ali will join Theo Rossi and Alfre Woodard, who have both been cast in similar roles for the upcoming first season of the Marvel show.
