FOX is currently developing a new ’24’ series that will focus on a younger Jack Bauer as the network looks to relaunch the popular show…
Who was Jack Bauer before the first season of ’24’?
Well a new series in development at FOX hopes to answer that question with a prequel in the works that would focus on a younger Jack Bauer — a role that was originated by Kiefer Sutherland.
At this time there’s no commitment to the series beyond the show being developed by ’24’ creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran alongside executive producer Howard Gordon but obviously FOX would be interested in the project.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the script that’s being developed would be for an ongoing series rather than a limited event run with hopes that the show could dig into Jack Bauer’s background prior to his role as the leader of the Counter Terrorism Unit in Los Angeles.
’24’ had returned in recent years with two separate limited series runs — ’24: Live Another Day’, which brought back Sutherland in his iconic role — and ’24: Legacy’, which attempted to relaunch the series with a new star in Corey Hawkins that lasted for 12 episodes but was ultimately not picked up for a second season.
Ever since that time, FOX has remained interested in developing another ’24’ series and it appears a prequel is the way to go with hopes that the script will transform into an ongoing show.
