Josh Brolin has landed the coveted role as Cable in ‘Deadpool 2’…
Josh Brolin is going from Thanos to Cable as part of the Marvel film universe.
On Wednesday, Brolin was confirmed to play Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in ‘Deadpool 2’ with the actor signing a multi-film deal with the studio to portray the famous character in at least four movies according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Rumors have swirled for months about who would land the coveted role with Michael Shannon nearly nabbing the part as well as ‘Stranger Things’ star David Harbour also on the short list from 21st Century FOX.
Ultimately, Brolin landed the role, which was a surprise considering he hadn’t even been mentioned as a possibility ahead of the announcement that he would be playing Cable.
Of course, Brolin is already part of the Marvel family — albeit in a separate studio — as he’s set to portray Thanos in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ films that are currently in production.
There’s no word on exactly how Cable will be portrayed in ‘Deadpool 2’ but he’s been a mainstay in storylines opposite Deadpool for many years in the comics. In the comics, Cable’s origin story starts as the son of X-Men leader Cyclops, who is sent into the future after he’s infected with a deadly techno-virus that can’t be cured by current medicine. Cable eventually returns to present day as a grown man and powerful mutant before forming his own team known as X-Force.
‘Deadpool 2’ is expected to get into production later this year with David Leitch (John Wick) directing the highly anticipated sequel.
