The release date for several new movies in the ‘X-Men’ universe have been revealed….
The Merc with a Mouth will officially return on June 1, 2018.
Over the weekend, FOX announced that ‘Deadpool 2’ will drop in theaters on June 1, 2018 with production on the film expected to begin later this year.
Ryan Reynolds is back in the starring role as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool while Josh Brolin will join the cast as future mutant leader Cable. ‘Atlanta’ star Zazie Beetz is also on board to play the luckiest mutant alive, Domino, with more cast members expected to be confirmed in the coming months.
‘Deadpool 2’ will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick) as he takes over from Tim Miller, who dropped off the sequel over creative differences with Reynolds.
In other news, FOX also confirmed the next film in the long running X-Men series with a bit of a do-over from a previous film. ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ is set to serve as the follow up to ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ with a November 2, 2018 release date. ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ will follow one of the most iconic comic book stories of all time known as ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’.
‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ released in 2006 already tackled part of this story but clearly the poor ratings for that film didn’t give fans exactly what they wanted to see so now FOX will do it all over again thanks to the timeline bending reset that started with ‘X-Men: First Class’.
Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) is expected to star as Jean Grey once again with Ty Sheridan returning as Scott Summers aka Cyclops. There’s no word on the rest of the cast for ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ just yet.
And finally, ‘The New Mutants’ was also confirmed for a April 13, 2018 release date that follows the first team of graduates from Charles Xavier’s school for the gifted with Josh Boone attached to direct. Several actors have also been rumored for ‘The New Mutants’ movie including ‘Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nat Wolff but nothing has been confirmed yet.
