‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Promises to Be ‘Darker’ with a Lot More ‘Horror’

A few new clues have been revealed about ‘Stranger Things’ season 2…

October 31 still seems like so far away but that’s how long we have to wait for ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 to land on Netflix.

Thankfully, the cast and creators behind the show are starting to talk about what to expect for the highly anticipated second season after a breakout freshman campaign last year.

At the end of ‘Stranger Things’ season one, Will Byers returned from the Upside Down, the Demogorgon was defeated and Eleven disappeared with no clue as to where she went except Chief Hopper dropping off some of her favorite Eggo waffles in a box in the woods near the mysterious Hawkins Laboratory where the breach between words was first discovered.

Will’s return will be a major component of the new season after it was discovered that he didn’t come back from the Upside Down world exactly the same as when he taken there months earlier.

“Something happens to Will in the first couple of episodes that’s very, very disturbing,” Finn Wolfhard, who plays team leader Mike teased when speaking to TVLIne.

It appears Will’s demeanor isn’t ignored in the early going of ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 despite his friends trying to put the past behind them as they look to just get back to being kids again.

“They know he is not well,” Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) said. “But they are just trying to pretend [nothing] happened.”

It seems Will isn’t the only one trying to make an adjustment in season 2 because Mike is also struggling after Eleven disappeared at the end of ‘Stranger Things’ season one. Mike and Eleven were close throughout the season but she sacrificed herself to save them all in a fight against the Demogorgon.

“He’s kind of somber,” Wolfhard said. “He’s kind of given up on life. He has no one to fight for until, slowly as the season progresses, he [becomes] more and more like [the] leader he was in the first season.”

Of course, Millie Bobby Brown is expected to return as Eleven in ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 but there’s no telling when she’ll make her first appearance or where that might take place.

According to the creators of the show — Matt and Ross Duffer — the Upside Down will be seen a lot more in season 2 with the main monster being more in your face than what we saw with the Demogorgon in season one.

“Last season, a lot of the horror and a lot of what was happening with Will was off screen in the Upside down,” Ross Duffer said. “That’s not the case [in Season 2]. The horror is more up-close and personal.”

Overall, the tone of ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is teased as “darker and more eerie” than anything we saw in season one. That being said, don’t expect ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 to be all horror and no fun because the creators behind the show would never allow that to happen.

“[Season 2] maintains that sense of fun, which was so important to the first season,” Matt Duffer said. “We didn’t want to lose that sense of wonder.”

It will all unfold when ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 debuts on Halloween on Netflix.
