In a major shake up, director Colin Trevorrow has been let go from the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’….
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ needs a new director.
On Tuesday, Lucasfilm announced that they have split with Colin Trevorrow, who was set to direct ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ due out on May 24, 2019 as the final installment of the latest trilogy of films.
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
Several reports stated that Lucasfilm had recently brought in writer Jack Thorne to take over the script for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ from Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Conolly. By all accounts this appears to be a classic situation where the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on a direction for the story and the split is over creative differences.
Trevorrow — best known for his work directing ‘Jurassic World’ — is the latest casualty in the ‘Star Wars’ film universe after directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were let go from the upcoming ‘Han Solo’ spinoff movie. They were eventually replaced by veteran director Ron Howard, who is still shooting the movie as we speak.
There’s no word yet on who will replace Trevorrow but given the importance of the third and final movie in the latest ‘Star Wars’ trilogy it’s likely the studio will be seeking an ‘A’ list name to take over.
