Legendary comic creator Len Wein has passed away at the age of 69…
Len Wein — best known for creating characters such as Wolverine and Swamp Thing as well as reinvigorating the X-Men in the 1970’s — has passed away at the age of 69.
Wein was recognized as one of the most influential comic book writers and editors of all time, working for both Marvel and DC comics over the years while putting his stamps on a ton of famous characters over the years.
Wein co-created Wolverine alongside artists John Romita Sr. and Herb Trimpe back in 1974 and eventually took over writing duties on the X-Men titles where he introduced an entirely new team lineup including Storm, Nightcrawler and Colossus, which completely revamped the comics originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
Wein was also responsible for co-creating the character of Swamp Thing for DC Comics in 1971 and he later worked alongside legendary writer Alan Moore when he took over the title as well as editing arguably his most notable book, ‘Watchmen’ released in 1986.
Wein was a beloved figure in the comic book industry where several of his peers paid tribute to him on Sunday.
