‘Glass’ serves as the sequel to Shyamalan’s 2000 hit film ‘Unbreakable’, which introduced the world to David Dunn (Bruce Willis) — a security guard who discovers through an unlikely friendship with a comic book enthusiast named Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) — also known as ‘Mr. Glass’ — that he possesses super powers. Unfortunately to find Dunn it was Price who himself became a super villain by killing thousands of people in a series of terror attacks in an effort to find his one true hero.
The film is regarded as one of the best comic book origin stories while never actually being based on any real source material.
Fast forward to 2016 when Shyamalan debuted his latest film titled ‘Split’, which chronicles a man named Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy), who kidnaps a group of teenage girls before revealing that he’s got multiple personality disorder. Crumb eventually unleashes his most dangerous personality — a creature known as ‘The Beast’ — who ultimately goes on a murderous rampage with only one girl surviving the ordeal.
At the end of ‘Split’ in a bonus scene, Bruce Willis’ character from ‘Unbreakable’ makes a surprise appearance, which sets up the sequel that began filming on Monday.
While there are no details about the plot for ‘Glass’, all of the major players from both films are set to return with Willis, McAvoy and Jackson all signed on to appear as well as Anya Taylor-Joy reprising her role from ‘Split’ as the only survivor of ‘The Beast’.
‘Glass’ is due out on January 18, 2019.
