The latest Star Wars spinoff movie will focus on bounty hunter Boba Fett with director James Mangold on board for the project…
One of the most iconic Star Wars characters with the least amount of story in the original trilogy is getting his own spinoff movie.
Boba Fett — the famous bounty hunter who first appeared in Empire Strikes Back and then died very unceremoniously one movie later in Return of the Jedi — is getting his own spinoff movie in the latest film from the Star Wars universe.
Perhaps the most interesting part about this planned Boba Fett movie is director James Mangold is attached to the project. Mangold is coming off the huge critical and commercial success surrounding his last film Logan, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay.
Mangold is reportedly working alongside Simon Kinberg on the script after they also worked together on the Logan movie that debuted last year.
Despite only appearing briefly in those two Star Wars movies, Boba Fett somehow gained cult status amongst fans of the science fiction series, which led to creator George Lucas to give him a backstory during the prequel films that ran from 1999 to 2005.
There’s no telling where Mangold will take Boba Fett’s story for this spinoff movie. While it seems likely that the Boba Fett movie won’t somehow connect to the current trilogy of films, it’s possible that Mangold and Kinberg tie their film to the original trilogy where the character first appeared.
Lucasfilm is developing numerous Star Wars projects right now for film and television including a Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff as well as a new live-action TV series from Jon Favreau.
Now this latest movie featuring Boba Fett will add a prominent director in Mangold to try and bring the bounty hunter to live on teh big screen for his own spinoff film.
