Billy Dee Williams will step back into a familiar role as Lando Calrissian for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ due out in 2019…
Lando Calrissian is returning to the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
Billy Dee Williams — who portrayed Lando in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ — is set to return to the role for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ due out on December 20, 2019.
Williams originated the role in 1980’s ‘Empire’ before reappearing in ‘Return of the Jedi’ in 1983. In recent years, Williams has returned to role in a voice capacity for the many ‘Star Wars’ animated projects airing on television.
Rumors have been swirling for weeks that Williams may be returning to the role for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ but after he cancelled a recent appearance at a sci-fi convention citing the filming of an upcoming movie took precedence. That eventually led to confirmation that Williams was coming back as Lando Calrissian for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’.
Details on the final film in the latest ‘Star Wars’ trilogy are sketchy at best but J.J. Abrams is returning to direct the project after originally leading ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. That movie broke all sorts of box office records and received very positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
Unfortunately, Abrams’ successor Rian Johnson didn’t have quite as much luck with ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ but now ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ looks to bring home the Skywalker saga one last time….at least for this particular trilogy.
