Kurt Sutter may be focused on ‘Mayans M.C.’ right now but he hasn’t forgotten about a ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel…
Kurt Sutter still plans on watching the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ ride again.
The creator behind the popular FX series has long talked about creating a prequel series that would tell the origins of the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ motorcycle club that originated with nine members, many of whom had just returned home from the Vietnam War.
The mythology surrounding the ‘First 9’ on ‘Sons of Anarchy’ was often talked about during the seven season run of the show and Sutter had always teased the possibility of going back and telling that origin story.
Lately, Sutter has mostly been focused on launching the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spinoff series ‘Mayans M.C.’, which debuts on FX on September 4. That said, Sutter hasn’t forgotten about his plans for the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel and he promises plans are still in place for that to happen.
“I love the idea of doing the first 10 of a prequel,” Sutter said at the Television Critics Association meeting recently. “It would be a 10-off. I’ll try to find a way to introduce that during the course of the Mayans.”
Sutter’s plan would be for the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel to just be a limited series run for 10 episodes to encapsulate the story about the origins of the club that started with Jax Teller’s father John and his best friend Clay Morrow.
‘Mayans M.C.’ has only been picked up for one season thus far but if the show launches successfully in September it’s tough to imagine FX wouldn’t renew the show, especially considering the massive success for ‘Sons of Anarchy’.
When the prequel will happen remains to be seen but Sutter is definitely still planning on returning to ‘Sons of Anarchy’ at some point in the future.
