The upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel added several new stars to the cast as well as the director who will handle the pilot for the HBO series…
Much of the upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel is shrouded in secrecy but HBO did reveal several new cast members that have been added to the highly anticipated show as well as the director, who will handle the pilot episode.
The new ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel was developed by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin, who is the creator behind the entire ‘Game of Thrones’ universe.
The pilot episode will be directed by S.J. Clarkson, who has worked on dozens of popular television series including ‘Jessica Jones’, ‘The Defenders’ and ‘Orange is the New Black’ on Netflix while also directing episodes of ‘Dexter’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Bates Motel’. She will now lead the pilot episode of the upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel with hopes that the show will get picked up to series by HBO (it seems almost a guarantee that the show will end up as a series).
In addition to the director, HBO added several new cast members to the show with plenty of familiar faces from television and film.
The new cast members include:
Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Denise Gough (Monday), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia films), Alex Sharp (How to Talk to Girls at Parties) and Toby Regbo (The Last Kingdom, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
Obviously there are no details on who any of these new actors are playing on the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel but they join a cast that already includes Oscar nominated actress Naomi Watts — who plays a ‘charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret’ and Josh Whitehouse, who was previously announced for the series.
As far as the plot goes, here’s the synopsis released by HBO:
“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: It’s not the story we think we know.”
The rumors have been that the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel will be based on ‘The Long Night’ — a period in Westeros shrouded in darkness after the longest winter in history, which is when the White Walkers first attacked the land of the living and the conclusion of that battle was the construction of the infamous Wall in the North and the creation of the Night’s Watch.
Production on the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel will start later this year but there’s no word on when HBO might decide to pick up the series or actually debut it on the network. The earliest the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel would arrive would be 2020 with the main series wrapping up with six final episodes that debut in April.
