Two more cast members have been added to ‘The Sopranos’ prequel movie that is expected to go into production later this year…
The cast for the highly anticipated prequel film to ‘The Sopranos’ titled ‘The Many Saints of Newark’ continues to grow by the day.
Two more additions were confirmed on Tuesday following the news that Vera Farmiga and Jon Bernthal were joining the cast alongside Alessandro Nivola, who will star in the lead role as Dickie Moltisanti — a mentor to a young Tony Soprano.
Corey Stoll — best known for his roles in ‘The Strain’ and ‘House of Cards’ — has joined the cast as well as Billy Magnussen — who has appeared in ‘The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story’ as well as the recent comedy film ‘Game Night’.
There are no details on the roles being played by Stoll and Magnussen as much of this film remains shrouded in secrecy as production prepares to begin later this year.
‘The Many Saints of Newark’ was written by ‘Sopranos’ creator David Chase and the story takes place in the late 1960’s amidst growing tensions between the Italians and African-Americans in north Jersey that led to the chaotic Newark riots in 1967. Many of the characters from ‘The Sopranos’ will appear in the film but obviously they will be the younger versions than those who portrayed them on the original series.
Nivola is the only confirmed role as Dickie Moltisanti never actually appeared on ‘The Sopranos’ but he was talked about often by both Tony and Christopher Moltisanti, who was his son.
‘The Many Saints of Newark’ is expected to kick off production this spring but there’s still no word on when the film may be released into theaters.
