A few new details about the highly anticipated ‘Breaking Bad’ movie have been revealed including plans to release the movie on Netflix and AMC…
‘Breaking Bad’ is back, bitch.
The award winning series from creator Vince Gilligan will return for a film sequel that is expected to first air on Netflix and then move over to AMC, which is where ‘Breaking Bad’ aired for five seasons.
Details surrounding the story are still shrouded in mystery but several reports have confirmed that the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie will be a sequel centered around Aaron Paul’s character Jesse Pinkman in the aftermath of his harrowing escape from the neo-Nazi compound where he was held captive and forced to cook meth for Todd (Jesse Plemons) and his uncle Jack.
In the final episode of ‘Breaking Bad’, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) returned from a self-imposed exile while running from authorities to help Jesse escape his captors before he himself was shot dead during the altercation.
There’s no word yet if Cranston will return, although he has stated numerous times in the past that he would happily appear in the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie after calling the show the greatest work he’s ever done.
“I don’t know if there’s an appearance — flashbacks, flash forwards — but I’m excited about it because it’s Breaking Bad and it was the greatest professional period of my life and I can’t wait to see all those people again, even if I just come by to visit,” Cranston told the ‘Dan Patrick Show’ after confirming the movie was being made.
Gilligan wrote the script and he is also expected to direct the movie.
The most interesting part about the distribution deal is that the ‘Breaking Bad’ film is expected to land on Netflix first before then airing on AMC at a later date. That is a switch from the original series, which aired on AMC and then found new life after Sony Television struck a deal to bring the show’s library to Netflix.
Nobody involved with the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie is talking yet, but it appears the movie is moving ahead with production plans for this year in New Mexico where the original series also filmed. There is also no word on additional cast members returning for the ‘Breaking Bad’ sequel beyond Paul coming back for the lead role that earned him three Emmy awards.
Paul will be in high demand in 2019 because in addition to his role in the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie, he’s also signed on for a series regular role in ‘Westworld’ season 3, which is currently in pre-production.
Gilligan is also an executive producer on ‘Better Call Saul’, the ‘Breaking Bad’ prequel that is also currently in production and airing on AMC. Several key cast members from ‘Breaking Bad’ are currently on ‘Better Call Saul’ but again it’s unknown if there will be any crossover with the upcoming film.
