There will be a delay for ‘Better Call Saul’ season 5 as the show is not expected to return to AMC until 2020…
‘Better Call Saul’ is inching closer and closer to ‘Breaking Bad’ but the next season of the prequel series won’t be seen until 2020.
That’s according to AMC president Sarah Barnett, who says the most recent plans discussed for the series wouldn’t see ‘Better Call Saul’ come back until sometime next year.
“We said on our most recent earnings call that the series would come back for season five next year,” Barnett revealed when speaking to Vulture. “It’s driven by talent needs, which we would not override if it would result in a worse show.”
‘Better Call Saul’ co-creators Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan have often said that there is meticulous world building involved with this series, especially with the stakes raised so high by the iconic status of ‘Breaking Bad’.
Another reason that the next season of ‘Better Call Saul’ may be delayed could be thanks to the current ‘Breaking Bad’ sequel film that is currently in production in New Mexico. While not much is known about the film project, Gilligan is returning to his old stomping grounds at ‘Breaking Bad’ for a sequel that is expected to follow Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) after he escaped captivity in the series finale.
Many of the same locations used in New Mexico for ‘Better Call Saul’ were also used for ‘Breaking Bad’ so it’s entirely possible that the show’s producers and creators decided to focus on the sequel movie for now before returning to the prequel series that will now return in 2020.
As for what to expect when ‘Better Call Saul’ returns, Tony Dalton was just recently upped to a series regular after debuting last season as the villainous Lalo Salamanca, who shows up to take over for his uncle’s business after Hector Salamanca fell ill following a stroke.
The name ‘Lalo’ was first heard during ‘Breaking Bad’ season 2 when Walter White and Jesse Pinkman kidnap Saul Goodman at gunpoint and threaten to kill him. While he has a gun pointed at his head, Saul begs for his life believing that the people threatening him are attached to ‘Lalo’ Salamanca.
How those two storylines will intersect remains to be seen and we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out how it all plays out with ‘Better Call Saul’ not returning to AMC until next year.
