The showrunner behind ‘Ozark’ says he’s hoping for a five season run to tell the entire story behind the popular Netflix series…
As ‘Ozark’ prepares to begin production on season 3 over the next few weeks, the showrunner behind the series is starting to look towards the end game.
Season 3 of the popular Netflix series will likely serve as the halfway point in the show if Chris Mundy has his way after plotting the course for the show to run a total of five seasons.
Mundy, who serves as the showrunner for ‘Ozark’, says that while he hasn’t definitively decided on an ending for the series, he definitely believes five total seasons would be the sweet spot for the show should it continue to get renewed by Netflix.
“We’ve always talked about it as five seasons. It could be four, it could be seven — but that always seemed like a good number to us,” Mundy said when speaking to the Hollywood Reporter.
“We’re building little things in, if we keep on track for the emotional ending we’re guessing we’ll have.”
‘Ozark’ follows the story of Marty Byrde, who was once a high profile accounting and money launderer for a powerful Mexican drug cartel, who is forced to work harder than ever to stay on their good side after his partner in the business betrays him. Marty is forced to move his family to the Ozarks and set up a number of businesses in hopes of laundering even more of the cartel’s money so he can stay in their good graces and avoid a grisly death.
Production on the series is expected to pick up in Atlanta, Georgia over the next few weeks with a few new wrinkles already planned for the season ahead.
According to Mundy, ‘Ozark’ will be introducing Wendy Byrde’s (Laura Linney) brother for the first time after he has been mentioned in past episodes.
‘Ozark’ star Jason Batemen will direct the first two episodes of ‘Ozark’ season 3 when filming begins in May.
