Former ‘Twilight’ star Robert Pattinson is returning to another marquee role as he will play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming film ‘The Batman’ from director Matt Reeves…
Robert Pattinson is the new Batman.
On Friday it was reported that after screen testing the former ‘Twilight’ star, Warner Bros. moved forward with an official offer to cast Pattison as Bruce Wayne-Batman in the upcoming film ‘The Batman’ from director Matt Reeves.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. confirmed that Pattinson has closed a deal to take over the role that was last played by Ben Affleck in several DC related feature films including ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ as well as ‘Justice League’.
After ‘Justice League’ largely flopped with critics and audiences, Affleck decided to step away from the role, which opened up the possibility that Reeves would go much younger for his version of ‘The Batman’.
Reeves reported wanted to do a younger version of the character anyways with a noir take on ‘The Batman’ that is expected to shine a brighter light on his detective skills in a grittier take on the mythology.
Pattinson screen tested this week alongside ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ star Nicholas Hoult but ultimately Warner Bros. opted to go with the former ‘Twilight’ star for the role of Batman.
While Pattinson is best known for his role playing the sparkling vampire Edward Cullen in the ‘Twilight’ series as well as his role in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, the British born actor has spent the last few years in smaller, more independent features.
He did just recently sign onto star in Christopher Nolan’s new feature film, which remains shrouded in mystery, and now he will play Batman in ‘The Batman’ with the new film due out on June 25, 2021.
Production on ‘The Batman’ is expected to start later this year.
