Veteran actor Rutger Hauer has died at age 75.
According to Variety, Steve Kenis, who was Hauer’s agent, confirmed the news on Wednesday while revealing that the actor’s funeral was held on Wednesday.
Hauer is best known for his iconic role in the science fiction classic ‘Blade Runner’ where he starred opposite Harrison Ford as the leader of a gang of outlaw replicants. Hauer also received praise for his disturbing turn in the horror film ‘The Hitcher’ where he terrorizes a motorist who chooses to pick him up on the side of the road.
Hauer also appeared as the lead villain in the 1992 film ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, which was a commercial disaster at the time but creator Joss Whedon stuck with the character and eventually reinvented the story as a popular TV series that lasted seven seasons.
In 2005, Hauer starred in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman Begins’ as a ruthless businessman going up against Bruce Wayne after he returns from overseas and reclaims his family’s company.
Hauer’s acting career never slowed down as he continued to take roles in recent years including a stint on ‘True Blood’ as well as the Syfy series ‘Channel Zero’.
Hauer is survived by his wife and daughter.
