Kevin Smith has the power!
The popular writer and director will serve as executive producer and showrunner for ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ — a new anime series being developed for Netflix that will conclude storylines started in the original ‘Masters of the Universe’ cartoon that ran between 1983 and 1985.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” Smith said in a statement. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor!
“Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
Smith has been teasing his work on the series for several weeks as he also teams up with his ‘Fatman Beyond’ podcast co-host Marc Bernardin, who will be one of the staff writers on the new ‘Masters of the Universe’ anime series.
Additional writers include Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen) and Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering).
‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ will include animation from from Castlevania’s Powerhouse Animation.
An updated film version of ‘Masters of the Universe’ has been in the works for some time with a 2020 release date still expected for the movie but the new anime series will have no connection to that movie.
‘Masters of the Universe’ was a story that took place on the fictional planet of Eternia where a man named Prince Adam wielded the Sword of Power, which transformed him into He-Man, the most powerful man in the entire universe. He-Man and his cohorts were at constant battle with Skeletor and his minions, who wanted to take Castle Grayskull and all the power in the universe for themselves.
