New footage from ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ was released at the D23 convention and now we’re getting our first look…
The ‘Star Wars’ saga will come to a conclusion on December 20 when ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ lands in theaters.
While new adventures will take place in the ‘Star Wars’ universe, this movie will bring to an end the Skywalker saga that first began with ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ in 1977, which ultimately resulted in a nine-movie series. This final film directed by J.J. Abrams will bring full circle the journey he started with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ back in 2015.
New footage from ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ was released this past weekend at the D23 convention in Anaheim, Calif. with a glimpse of what’s to come in this last movie.
While a few shots were previously released in the first trailer, the new footage also reveals a look at the upcoming battle between the First Order and the Resistance as well as the ominous voice of Emperor Palpatine, who is making his return to the franchise after last being seen in ‘Return of the Jedi’ (in a linear timeline, not counting the prequels).
Perhaps the most interesting shot from the new footage shows Rey wearing familiar garb that typically belongs to the Sith as she wields a double ended lightsaber similar to the one that Darth Maul once carried. Now it’s safe to assume that Rey isn’t turning to the darkside but rather this appears to be some kind of Force vision similar to the one that Luke Skywalker had in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ when he went into a cave where the Dark Side of the Force was strong and he battled Darth Vader only to have the mask reveal his own face underneath.
It seems rather unlikely that Rey will be turning evil in this movie but it’s undoubtedly an interesting twist to the new footage that was released.
