Upcoming “Candyman” director Nia DaCosta already has her next project lined up as she will take over duties on “Captain Marvel 2” starring Brie Larson…
Nia DaCosta — who directed the upcoming “Candyman” reboot from producer Jordan Peele — has been tapped to lead the upcoming “Captain Marvel 2” sequel starring Brie Larson.
The 30-year-old New York native broke through with her work on the 2019 thriller “Little Woods,” which starred Tessa Thompson, Lily James and Luke Kirby. That film helped DaCosta land the directing job for “Candyman,” which reboots the classic horror franchise with Peele attached as an executive producer on the project along with “Watchmen” star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II leading the cast.
Now DaCosta will helm the highly anticipated “Captain Marvel” sequel as she takes over for Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck, who directed the original film that grossed over $1.1 billion in the worldwide box office.
She will direct a script from Megan McDonnell, who also worked on the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series “WandaVision.”
DaCosta has become one of the hottest directors in the business following her work on “Little Woods” and then being hand picked to lead the upcoming “Candyman” reboot. Now she will direct her first blockbuster in “Captain Marvel 2” with Larson set to return following the events that unfolded in “Avengers: Endgame.”
The current release date for “Captain Marvel 2” is July 8, 2022 but that could change depending on how long it takes for production to get underway due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
