A follow up to “Mad Max: Fury Road” is on the way from director George Miller with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the Furiosa role originated by Charlize Theron…
The long-rumored follow up to “Mad Max: Fury Road” is finally happening.
Director George Miller has assembled the main cast for his upcoming prequel titled “Furiosa” that will focus on the one-armed war captain originally played by Charlize Theron, who became a major ally to Max Rockatansky in the 2015 film starring Tom Hardy.
The prequel will tell Furiosa’s origin story with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the lead role after Theron played the part in “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
Taylor-Joy is best known for her past roles in films such as “The Witch,” “Split,” “Glass,” and most recently her appearance in “The New Mutants.”
Along with Taylor-Joy taking on the lead role as Furiosa, the new “Mad Max” prequel will also star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Hemsworth is best known for his iconic role as Thor in numerous Marvel movies including a trio of solo films as well as the upcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which will be directed by Taika Waititi. He’s also crossed over for numerous appearances in films such as “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
As for Abdul-Mateen II, he previously starred as the villainous Black Manta in “Aquaman” opposite Jason Momoa and just recently took home an Emmy award for his work in the HBO limited series event “Watchmen.”
Plot details for “Furiosa” are still under wraps but Miller will direct the film as well as co-write the screenplay.
“Mad Max: Fury Road” was a hit with critics and audiences while making more than $375 million at the global box office after being released in 2015. There’s no word yet when “Furiosa” will get into production or be released but it appears all the parts are coming together for the “Mad Max” prequel to happen very soon.
