The upcoming Netflix adaptation of “The Sandman” comics has just announced the cast for the series including a pair of “Game of Thrones” favorites…
Neil Gaiman’s iconic comic book “The Sandman” is finally coming to life in a new series headed to Netflix and the cast for the show has now been confirmed.
The highly anticipated new series is described as “a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, ‘The Sandman’ follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.”
Leading the cast will be Tom Sturridge — best known for his role in the series “Sweetbitter” — will portray Dream, the Lord of Dreaming, also known as Morpheus and other names throughout history.
Gwendoline Christie — who should be recognized from her role as Brienne of Tarth on “Game of Thrones” will play Lucifer, the ruler of Hell.
Charles Dance — another “Game of Thrones” alum as the villainous Tywin Lannister — portrays Roderick Burgess, a charlatan, blackmailer and magician.
Vivienne Acheampong (“The Witches)” plays Lucienne, the chief librarian and trusted guardian of Dream’s realm.
Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”) will portray The Corinthian, an escaped nightmare who wishes to taste all that the world has in store.
Asim Chaudhry (“Wonder Woman:1984) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (“Yesterday”) take on the roles of Abel and Cain, the first victim and the first predator, who are residents and loyal subjects of the Dream Realm.

“For the last 33 years, the Sandman characters have breathed and walked around and talked in my head,” Gaiman said in a statement. “I’m unbelievably happy that now, finally, they get to step out of my head and into reality. I can’t wait until the people out there get to see what we’ve been seeing as Dream and the rest of them take flesh, and the flesh belongs to some of the finest actors out there.
“This is astonishing, and I’m so grateful to the actors and to all of The Sandman collaborators — Netflix, Warner Bros., DC, to Allan Heinberg and David Goyer, and the legions of crafters and geniuses on the show — for making the wildest of all my dreams into reality.”
“The Sandman” was given an 11-episode initial order from Netflix after the streaming service obtained rights to the show from Warner Bros. With casting in place, production is expected to start later this year with a release date still to be determined.
