The “Train To Busan” remake has found a director.
Timo Tjahjanto — best known for his work on the Netflix action thriller “The Night Comes For Us” as well as one half of the Mo Brothers, who are responsible for horror hits such as “Macabre,” “Killers” and a segment in “V/H/S 2” — has been tapped to direct the film with James Wan’s Atomic Monster serving as one of the main producers on the project.
The original “Train To Busan” was a smash hit after first being released in 2016 as the South Korean film debuted at Cannes Film Festival and quickly become a critical and commercial success. The film centers around a zombie outbreak in South Korea as a group of people are trapped on a train bound from Seoul to Busan as the disease spreads throughout the cars.
It’s a harrowing, high-speed thriller that creates an entirely different kind of tension than the typical zombie movie.
Once “Train To Busan” was released, a bidding war ensued almost immediately to secure the rights for a potential remake for America with New Line ultimately winning out.
Now the remake has taken a major step forward with a director being hired as well as Gary Dauberman on board to pen the script. Dauberman is best known for his work on several high profile horror films including “It” and “It: Chapter 2” as well as “Annabelle” and “Annabelle Comes Home.”
Now that both a writer and director have been secured, it probably won’t take long before casting can begin for the “Train to Busan” remake.
