Jeremy Renner will re-team with Taylor Sheridan for his new series on Paramount+ and there’s a new “Yellowstone” spinoff headed to the streaming service…
“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan is staying busy with several new series headed to the upcoming Paramount+ streaming service including a show headlined by his old pal Jeremy Renner.
Renner — who is best known for his roles in “The Avengers” movies as well as his previous work with Sheridan on the critically acclaimed film “Wind River” — is set to star in the lead role of “Mayor of Kingstown,” which was previously announced as a new series in 2020.
“Mayor of Kingstown” follows the McLusky family – power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.
Antoine Fuqua, who is best known as the director for the award-winning film “Training Day,” has also stepped on board as an executive producer on “Mayor of Kingstown.”
Renner will star in the lead role as Mike McLusky, who is actually the Mayor of Kingstown.
“I am excited to dig into the complex and rough-around-the-edges character of Mike McLusky (the Mayor of Kingstown),” Renner said in a statement. “In a world otherwise forgotten in society, Mike serves as a flawed system of checks and balances. Taylor has brought to life a layered and poignant universe that is not only incredibly intriguing but also more relevant than ever.”
With Renner set to headline “Mayor of Kingstown,” Sheridan will add even more series to his IMDB page with three more shows already ordered for the upcoming Paramount+ streaming service. Two of those series will be set in the same universe as “Yellowstone,” the hugely popular series that currently airs on the Paramount Network.
First up is Y: 1883 — a prequel of sorts that will introduce the Dutton family from “Yellowstone” as they first travel across the United States seeking prosperity. Here’s the synopsis from Paramount:
“Y: 1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.”
Next up is the “Yellowstone” spinoff tentatively titled “6666”
Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing … The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made.
Finally, Sheridan is developing a new series called “Land Man” —
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Land Man is a modern day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.
Sheridan inked a rich, overall deal with ViacomCBS in the wake of the massive success of “Yellowstone” and it doesn’t appear he’s slowing down any time soon with at least three more series headed to Paramount+.
