“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke will be joining a couple of her former co-stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after booking a role on the upcoming “Secret Invasion” series…
The Mother of Dragons will be joining the MCU.
Emilia Clarke — best known for her eight-season run on “Game of Thrones” as Daenerys Targaryen — has joined the upcoming Marvel series “Secret Invasion” where she will star alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman.
Clarke confirmed the booking via Instagram on Tuesday.
There’s no word on the character Clarke will be playing but she’s expected to have a leading role alongside Jackson as Nick Fury and Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos after previously playing that part in “Captain Marvel” and more recently in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
“Secret Invasion” is just the latest in a series of truly ambitious shows that Marvel has booked for Disney+ after receiving rave reviews for both “WandaVision” and the currently running series “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” Marvel has spared no expense when it comes to the cast lists for these shows and it’s expected that “Secret Invasion” will be a massive addition to the lineup.
Based on the comic book crossover series of the same name, “Secret Invasion” will follow a group of shape-shifting aliens, who have been quietly infiltrating Earth for many years and replacing some high ranking officials and possibly even some well known superheroes. The comic book story was similar after it was revealed that the Skrulls had spent decades replacing people on Earth to eventually plot a takeover.
Clarke is a four-time Emmy nominated actress for her role on “Game of Thrones” and she’s the latest alum from that series to now join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Two of her fellow co-stars — Kit Harington and Richard Madden are both starring in the upcoming film “The Eternals,” which drops on November 5. Peter Dinklage had also previously appeared in “Avengers: Endgame”
