Kevin Smith will finally get to make “Clerks III” with production underway in New Jersey as the writer and director revealed plot details for the upcoming film…
Kevin Smith is definitely supposed to be here today.
The famed writer and director is finally getting the chance to make “Clerks III” with production already underway in New Jersey.
Lionsgate has secured distribution rights for “Clerks III” that will see Smith return to the franchise he first launched back in 1994 with the original sequel then released in 2006. Now 15 years later, Smith will go back to his old stomping grounds in New Jersey to film the third and final film in the series while bringing some of his real life into the story of his characters.
“In the story this time, I give Randal the heart attack that almost killed me,” Smith revealed about the plot for ‘Clerks III.’ “But rather than succumb to the reality of middle age, Randal rages against the dying light by telling the story of his life in an indie film he shoots with his fellow clerks at Quick Stop!
“27 years ago, I made a movie about Dante and Randal that made my dreams come true and changed my life – so now I get to return the favor!”
Smith also announced that cast members from both “Clerks” and “Clerks 2” would be returning for the third film including Brian O’Holloran and Jeff Anderson in the lead roles as Dante and Randal as well as Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Trevor Fehrman and his wife, Jennifer Schwalbach.
Of course, Smith always seems to get more than a few guest stars to make appearances in his films so it’s likely numerous characters from his past films will likely also appear in “Clerks III.” Smith will also obviously be reprising his own role as Silent Bob opposite Mewes as Jay.
Smith has been working on bringing “Clerks III” to the big screen for several years but he scrapped plans for a previous version of the film that he had written. After suffering a heart attack in 2018, Smith decided to pen a new version of the script where he obviously injected his own experiences into the characters in his film, who were also based loosely upon him and his friends growing up in New Jersey.
While production is underway, there’s no exact timeline for how long Smith will be shooting “Clerks III” or when the movie might actually arrive in theaters just yet.
