Get a first look at the new series “Mayor of Kingstown,” which reunites Jeremy Renner with “Wind River” and “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan…
“Anything I ever gave you, I could take away in an afternoon. Don’t ever threaten me again.”
Those words come from the new character played by Jeremy Renner in the upcoming series “Mayor of Kingstown,” which debuts on Paramount+ starting on November 14.
The series coming from Taylor Sheridan, who is also the creator behind the hit series “Yellowstone” as well as the writer and director from the film “Wind River,” which starred Renner as well.
“Mayor of Kingstown” is a much different series from “Yellowstone” but still somehow feels like outlaws at work in a wester, except this battle takes place in Michigan instead of Montana.
“Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family – power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.”
Renner will play Mike McLusky, the leader of his family, who rules over this small prison town with an iron fist alongside his brother played by Emmy winner Kyle Chandler. Together they keep a tight grip on a town and the business of for-profit prisons that their father ran before them.
“I like exploring and even supporting that idea of them having a moral compass,” Renner said about his character at the Television Critics Association. “Not all actions are perfect, right? We’re all flawed. But, if it still comes from a strong base that’s unflappable, there’s something beautiful about that. Mike possesses those things.”
The 10-episode series is the latest creation from Sheridan, who inked an overall deal at Viacom to expand his growing universe of series and films following an Academy Award nomination for his film “Hell or High Water” before creating “Yellowstone,” which has become one of the highest rated shows on all of television.
In addition to “Mayor of Kingstown,” Sheridan will also debut the new series “1883,” which serves as a “Yellowstone” prequel that tells the story how the Dutton family migrated from Texas to Montana to eventually build the largest ranch in the United States.
