The new trailer for the upcoming “Scream” sequel reunites the cast from the past while also revealing the new killer has ties to the original film…
“Hello, Sidney…”
It wouldn’t be a “Scream” trailer without those iconic words — and now we have our first look at the upcoming sequel to the famed horror franchise ahead of the film’s release on January 14, 2022.
The new trailer released on Monday reunites the cast from the original film including Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox along with several new faces, who are being stalked by the Ghostface killer.
Of course as the years have passed, technology has also changed, which leads to an interesting opening scene revealed in the trailer as the killer turns a victim’s smart lock system against them to get into the house.
Once Sidney Prescott and her friends are pulled back into this latest murder mystery, it appears that the upcoming “Scream” sequel will not only return to Woodsboro but to the scene of the crime at Stu Macher’s residence where he threw a party in the original film that later turned into a bloodbath.
Stu was later revealed as one of the killers alongside his partner Billy Loomis but both where killed at the end of the film.
That doesn’t mean their legacy is dead and buried, however, as the trailer notes that everybody involved in this latest string of incidents has ties to those original killers.
It will be interesting to see how it all comes together with a new creative team behind “Scream” as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett direct the film written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick — and they are the same people behind the breakout horror hit “Ready or Not.”
They take over for the late, great Wes Craven, who directed all four of the previous “Scream” films prior to his death in 2015.
Take a look at the new trailer for “Scream” as well as the poster below and get ready for the sequel to be released into theaters on Jan. 14.
