Veteran character actor Dean Stockwell, who appeared in dozens of film and television roles including David Lynch’s “Dune,” “Battlestar Galactica’ and “Quantum Leap,” has died at the age of 85.
According to several reports, he passed away peacefully at home due to natural causes.
Stockwell first started acting when he was just 7 years old and he had a career that spanned decades while appearing in numerous genres in both film and television.
He first started to make waves through appearances on TV with small parts in series such as “Columbo,” “Police Story” and “The Streets of San Francisco.”
Stockwell’s career really took off during the 1980s where he made several notable appearances including his role in the film adaptation for “Dune” where he played the villainous Dr. Wellington Yueh. He teamed up with Lynch again in the 1986 film “Blue Velvet” where Stockwell starred alongside Dennis Hopper, Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern.
Of course, Stockwell’s most famous role started in 1989 where he was cast alongside Scott Bakula in the time traveling adventure series “Quantum Leap.” Stockwell appeared in 97 episodes until the series came to a close in 1993.
From there, Stockwell eventually landed a role in the “Battlestar Galactica” reboot where he played one of the primary antagonists on the series.
Stockwell retired from acting in 2015 after suffering a stroke. He is survived by his wife and two children.
