The new trailer for “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness” has arrived with all sorts of teasers for what’s to come including a possible connection to the X-Men…
When Doctor Strange decided to help Peter Parker protect his secret identity from the people he loved, the former Sorcerer Supreme had no idea the kind of damage he would unleash by unlocking the multiverse and allowing many words to collide together.
Now in the new trailer for “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness,” which hits theaters on May 6, Strange is dealing with the repercussions of those actions while trying to stop the multiverse from spinning out of control. Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel:
“The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.”
The trailer features all sorts of teaser that will have Marvel fans in a frenzy, especially after hearing one particularly recognizable voice.
During a scene in the trailer, Strange is placed under arrest and handcuffed before being led by a group of Ultron bots — the same murderous robot clones from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” — as he’s lead before a shadowy cabal where a voice rings out telling him “we should tell him the truth.”
That voice sounds like it belongs to none other than Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Professor Charles Xavier for many years in the FOX “X-Men” universe. The fact that Strange is being handcuffed and brought before Professor Xavier could also potentially reveal even more characters because speculation is that this could be a multiverse version of The Illuminati.
In Marvel Comics, a secret group of heroes were assembled to help shape the world while making life altering decisions that could alter or change the entire universe. The group typically consisted of members such as Professor Xavier, Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four, Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Namor the Sub Mariner and Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans.
The Illuminati was essentially an all-powerful group of heroes that would debate and decide on actions that would shape the superhuman world and everyone around it.
Of course, it’s not clear if the Illuminati is actually coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it certainly looked that way based solely on this trailer.
In addition to the potential addition of Professor Charles Xavier, the trailer also featured several versions of Strange himself including one who happens to be a zombie, which crosses over with the “What If?” series on Disney+ that actually featured an entire episode with the Marvel Zombies.
The trailer also relies heavily on the return of Wanda Maximoff, who is pulled into action by Doctor Strange as he attempts to put a lid on the multiverse before everything explodes. Wanda was last seen in “WandaVision” where she retreated to her own corner of the world after transforming the small town of Westview, New Jersey into her own personal paradise where she was able to bring Vision back to life to play house with her.
In the end, Wanda was forced to defeat Agatha Harkness in order to save the town and escape but she’s also become the very powerful Scarlet Witch and it doesn’t appear that she’s past the grief that led her to creating Westview in the first place.
The trailer also features the first appearance of Xochitl Gomez, who will be playing popular Marvel hero America Chavez. In the comics, Chavez has incredible powers including the ability to open portals from one world to the next, which means she might just be the person who saves Doctor Strange from himself in this movie.
There’s a lot to unpack from this trailer so go ahead and watch this new video from “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness” ahead of the film’s release on May 6.
