“The Nun 2” is officially getting into production as “The Conjuring” universe continues to expand under the watchful eye of James Wan…
“The Conjuring” universe will continue to expand with “The Nun 2” officially happening with Michael Graves set to direct the sequel alongside Bonnie Aarons returning as the terrifying demonic nun known as Valak.
James Wan — the creator behind “The Conjuring” films and an executive producer behind the entire series — made the announcement on Instagram along with some behind the scenes photos when he directed Aarons in “The Conjuring 2.”
Graves will be returning after he previously directed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” which was the third film in the long running horror series. It was the first one that Wan didn’t personally direct, although he was still involved with the film from his producer role.
In the original film “The Nun,” a priest with a haunted past and a novice on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.
Of course, fans of “The Conjuring” films will recognize Valak as the central antagonist in those movies, particularly in part 2 when the demonic nun truly appeared for the first time in fully realized form. Valak has also made appearances in “Annabelle: Creation” as well as “Annabelle Comes Home.”
It’s not clear yet what story “The Nun” will tell, although there’s plenty of possibilities given the numerous appearances of the demon Valak in various “Conjuring” films already.
