A pair of highly anticipated horror films will land on Amazon Prime Video in September with the “Goodnight Mommy” remake and “My Best Friend’s Exorcism”…
October is typically reserved as the month where horror films truly take over but September is no slouch, especially with Amazon Prime Video dropping a pair of highly anticipated movies over the next few weeks.
First up on September 16 is “Goodnight Mommy” — a remake of the film of the same name released in Austria in 2014 — with this version starring Naomi Watts in the lead role alongside Cameron Crovetti, who fans might recognized from “The Boys” and his brother Nicholas Crovetti.
Here’s the plot details for “Goodnight Mommy”
“When twin brothers arrive home to find their mother’s demeanor altered and face covered in surgical bandages, they begin to suspect the woman beneath the gauze might not be their mother.”
The original film was incredibly disturbing and received rave reviews when it was released. The new trailer definitely appears to be faithful to the source material so check out “Goodnight Mommy” when that releases on Sept. 16.
The second horror film coming from Amazon in September will be the adaptation of “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” from a book of the same name from noted author Grady Hendrix.
Hendrix’s book was hugely popular just after its release and it didn’t take long for Amazon to option the story for a film that is now set for release on September 30. Here are the plot details for that film:
“The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries—and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?”
The film adaptation stars Elsie Fisher and Amiah Miller in the lead roles as best friends Abby and Gretchen with Christopher Lowell (“Glow”) also playing a pivotal role in the upcoming film.
