Henry Cavill will once again be playing Superman in future DC films after he made an appearance in the recently released “Black Adam” movie…
Henry Cavill is officially back as Superman.
The 39-year-old British actor made the announcement on Instagram after he appeared in a scene in “Black Adam” opposite Dwayne Johnson, which seemed to confirm he was returning to the role he’s played in several films including “Man of Steel” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League.”
“Hey everyone — I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch ‘Black Adam,’ but now that plenty of you have, it’s official: I’m back.
“The image you see on this post and what you saw on ‘Black Adam’ are just a very small taste of what’s to come. So there’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time. But I wanted to thank you guys most of all. Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be all worth it.”
Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen “Black Adam.”
In the post credits scene, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) confronts Black Adam after he escapes captivity to save his home nation of Kahndaq but she warns him to stay in his own lane or she’ll have to call in assistance to stop him. When Black Adam balks at her threat under the assumption that nobody is powerful enough to oppose him, that’s when Waller introduces him to Superman.
Cavill then makes his appearance opposite Dwayne Johnson while telling him that they need to have a talk.
While that teaser obviously hinted at Cavill’s return, nothing had been made official until now with the actor announcing further plans to portray Superman in future films.
As it stands, the DC film universe is still very much up in the air without any definitive direction about where certain characters will fit into stories much less the cohesiveness between various movies. That said, DC has ambitious plans for “The Flash” film, which many expect to serve as a reset button for the entire film universe, which could also help Cavill plot his return as Superman.
Obviously, Cavill’s announcement will undoubtedly also eventually lead to his second solo outing as Superman after he first appeared as the character in 2013’s “Man of Steel.” There had been talks about a “Man of Steel 2” for several years and now that sequel might actually happen with Cavill secured to play Superman again.
